On Friday, September 27, 2025, the Sahari Organization for Development – Canada hosted a meaningful community gathering in Hamilton to officially launch its newcomer support initiatives and to listen to the voices that matter most: newcomers building new lives in Canada. Held at 245 King William St., Hamilton, ON (L8R 1B1), the event welcomed recent immigrants from diverse backgrounds to share their needs, experiences, and ideas for better services in their new home community Launching Event _ Community Sur….
Why This Event Mattered
The heart of the event was a deep commitment to collaboration and community listening. Designed purposely for individuals who have been in Canada for less than three years, the gathering had three major goals:
- Listen to the needs of the newcomer community
- Identify gaps in existing services available to newcomers
- Introduce Sahari’s programs and supports offered to immigrants and refugees
By centering the voices of newcomers, Sahari aims to ensure that the programs it develops are not only helpful—but genuinely relevant and responsive to real community needs.
Creating Space for Newcomer Voices
Participants were invited to contribute through a community survey and open conversation. This approach allowed newcomers to express the challenges they face, including navigating services, accessing education, employment opportunities, cultural adaptation, and mental health support.
